Day Two

We started nice and early today, eager to continue our fixer-upper journey. The first order of business was to continue emptying out the house. Our daughter was up bright and early to help, excited to see what treasures we might uncover. However, our son woke us up at 6 am with a low-grade fever, so he stayed at home to rest. Thankfully, by the end of the day, he was feeling much better.

Despite the unexpected setback, we made significant progress. By the end of the day, the dumpster was filled to the brim, and we have already arranged for our first pickup (for Aiken locals, we used BK for the dumpster rental). Thus far, we have successfully emptied the living room, guest bathroom, linen closet, dining room, attic, and half of the kitchen. It’s amazing to see the house starting to open up and reveal its potential.

One of the services we decided not to DIY was clearing the acre lot. Thankfully, a bobcat and industrial mulch machine made super quick work of the overgrowth, and the transformation was dramatic (for Aiken locals, we used Chasta Forestry Mulching, LLC- we highly recommend them)! The lot looks so much more spacious and tidy, and we can now envision the beautiful outdoor space we plan to create. Its ready for a fence and some landscaping!

The clearing of the lot was finished up around 7:00 pm. To end the day, Brian was able to remove some carpet. We narrowly avoided a tetanus shot and our neighbors experienced a new hole in their garage window from flying debris. Chasta Foresry Mulching graciously offered to pay for the damage. Despite the exhaustion, we are satisfied with how much we accomplished today.

Day two was incredibly productive, and seeing the progress has only fueled our excitement for what’s to come. We can’t wait to share more updates as we continue this adventure!

If you are reading this... we need a good pool person local to Aiken to get the pool back in shape. All the equipment works but water is green and tadpoles currently are swimming in there lol.

I'll post before and after photos of the lot clearing tomorrow ;) !

Stay tuned for more!
